About this document

A rent receipt is the tenant’s proof that rent was paid. Tenants often need these to claim house rent allowance (HRA) from an employer, and landlords should give one whenever rent is paid.

Fill in the details and print. It is made in your browser and nothing you type is stored on our server. Transaction numbers and the landlord’s PAN are left blank for you to write by hand.

Who signs: Landlord (signs) and Tenant (keeps the receipt).

Before you sign

  1. Prefer bank transfer or UPI so there is also a bank record of every payment.

After you print

  1. The landlord signs the receipt and gives it to the tenant. Keep a copy.
  2. Write the transaction or cheque number by hand, and the landlord PAN if your employer asks for it.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a rent receipt to claim HRA?

Employers usually ask for rent receipts or proof of rent paid. The exact documents depend on your employer and the Income Tax rules, so confirm what your employer needs. If the yearly rent is above the limit in the rules, the landlord’s PAN is generally asked for.

Can I make one receipt for the whole year?

Yes, enter the full period (for example April 2026 to March 2027) and the total amount. Many people prefer one receipt per month because it matches the bank entries.
